Throttle Instructions

All locomotives are DCC equipped with a variety of SoundTraxx decoders (TSU-1000 & Blunamis). ProtoThrottles are used for all diesel operations and are set with momentum for acceleration and deceleration, so a brake must be used to stop.

The M-I is an ideal layout to learn or use a ProtoThrottle. It’s a calm environment with no pressure and plenty of folks are on hand to help. For diesels, it certainly is the most realistic controller short of the real thing.

A variety of guides and instructions are applied directly to the throttle case to assist operators. Engines are typically pre-assigned to throttles for convenience; however, it is easy to re-assign if needed and instructions are provided. All locos are run individually – there are no consists on this layout.

ProtoThrottles are used for diesel locomotives and operate similar to the prototype.
I’ve color-coded the navigation buttons around the screen. Please avoid reprogramming the throttles.
Simple guidelines assist you in acquiring a locomotive. Typically, this step has been done for you prior to the session.
Every user has either experienced, or will experience, a ProtoThrottle error. No big deal – notes explain how to recover. The most common complaint: “My engine won’t move”. Most common reason: the brake is still set. Solution: release the brake (red lever to the left).

The M-I is transitioning toward complete dieselization, but occasions arise when steam is assigned to the Incline crew. When in service, steam locomotives are operated with an NCE Intermediate Cab 06er.

The NCE Intermediate Cab can be pressed into diesel service if necessary; however, headlights (and other functions) may not work as planned. Toggle F5 to apply brakes.
